- Wayne State wasted no time in drawing first blood this season, as Warrior quarterback Donovan Zezula found wide-out Jamel Hicks on a screen pass that he took 75 yards down the sideline for the first touchdown of the contest just 1:50 into the contest.
- WSU scored three more touchdowns in the opening half, taking a 28-0 lead at the break thanks to earning a 296-67 advantage in total yards in the opening 30 minutes.
- After trading possessions via fumbles on consecutive plays early in the third quarter, Northwood got on the board with junior David Riser (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills C.) booting a 42-yard field goal to make it 28-3 six minutes into the 3rd quarter.
