Football Places Eight On All-GLIAC Teams
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University football team placed eight players on the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) team, the league announced Tuesday (November 15).
Senior linebacker Michael Fisher led the way, claiming First Team All-GLIAC honors. Junior defensive back Nick Tripp was named Second Team All-GLIAC. The Timberwolves also placed six players on the Honorable mention team: senior defensive back Ayrn Curtis, senior defensive lineman Colt Harrington, junior offensive lineman Jeremy Marshall, junior offensive lineman Matt Modreske, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Jacob Van Ittersum and senior wide receiver Theron Wilson.
Fisher finished his standout career by finishing the regular season leading the GLIAC in total tackles for the third straight year, totaling 115 stops. He also had 5.5 tackles for loss, three pass breakups and two interceptions. Fisher finished his career with 430 tackles, 58 more than any other player in school history. He earned All-GLIAC honors three times in his career – First Team (2014, 2016), Second Team (2015).
Tripp was a standout in the defensive backfield for the Timberwolves. Despite missing two games, he ranked second on the team in tackles (60). Tripp added two interceptions, four pass breakups and 2.5 tackles for loss this season.
Curtis earned All-GLIA honors for the second time in his career (Second Team – 2014). He ended the year with 32 tackles in nine games. Curtis added two interceptions, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery.
Harrington was a four-year starter for Northwood on the defensive line. He registered 32 tackles his senior year while adding two sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.
Marshall, Modreske and Van Ittersum were mainstays up front for the Northwood offense this season. The trio combined to play in 32 of a possible 33 games as starters for the Timberwolves. Northwood increased their scoring by over a point and rushed for 31 more yards per game this season than a year ago.
Wilson finished his career as one the best big-play threats in the country this season. He currently ranks third nationally in yards per reception, averaging 26.21 yards per catch. For the year, Wilson finished with 629 yards on 24 receptions. He led the team and ranked 12th in the GLIAC with six receiving touchdowns.
