  • The story of the opening drive of the game was the connection between Northwood quarterback Ty Cox and receiver Noah Koenigsknecht. Over a span of four plays, the duo combined for completions of 26, 31 and 24 yards. The 24-yard reception was good for a touchdown that put the Timberwolves on top 6-0.
  • Northwood got into GVSU territory on their next two possessions but were unable to produce any points on those drives. Meanwhile, the Lakers scored touchdowns on their first four possessions to take a 28-6 lead.
  • Grand valley State then returned a blocked punt for a touchdown to go up 35-6.
