Football Falls In Final Seconds To Davenport 21-14

INSIDE THE GAME

  • The Timberwolves won the coin toss and deferred to the Panthers. Davenport marched right down the field, scoring a touchdown after a 59-yard, 11-play drive to take the 7-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest.
  • Northwood fumbled on their first possession, giving the Panthers the ball on the Northwood 33. The Panthers took advantage of their field position with 12-yard rushing touchdown to put the score at 14-0.
  • The Timberwolf offense got rolling in the second quarter thanks to big runs by Nate Gomez and Brock Franklin. Northwood drove 71 yards down the field in eight plays, resulting in a seven yard rushing touchdown by Gomez to put the score at 14-7.
  • The score remained 14-7 into the half. DU held a 189-111 edge in offense at the break.
  • The first points of the second half went to DU. The Panthers drove 82 yards in 11 plays to extend their advantage to 21-7 with 8:28 remaining in the third quarter.
  • Not going away, NU got back within a touchdown just one minute into the fourth quarter. Ty Cox found Bryant Kieft in the endzone, who made a leaping catch to put six on the board for the Timberwolves. A successful extra point attempt by Max Gonos made the score 21-14.
  • The Panthers got to the Timberwolves' 21 before a sack for a loss of 8 yards by Brock Cook forced DU to attempt a 46-yard field goal. The field goal was missed wide, giving the Timberwolves the football back with just under eight minutes left with a chance to tie the score.
  • The Timberwolves had one final chace to tie the game, as NU found themselves on their own 33-yard line with no timeouts and 1:21 remaining. Cox and the Timberwolves marched down the field, including a 39-yard pass to Tajae Leslie that brought NU to the 1-yard line with eight seconds to go in the contest. NU's final carry of the game was stopped short of the goal line, however, giving Davenport the win.
