Football Ends Season With 34-26 Loss At Northern Michigan

INSIDE THE GAME

  • After three straight punts to start the game, Northwood got their offense rolling on their third possession. The Timberwolves went 69-yards in seven plays, capping the drive with a Brock Franklin seven-yard touchdown run to make the score 7-0.
  • NU's defense stepped up on the next possession, as Malik Edmundson picked off a Wildcat pass to give the Timberwolves back the ball at the Northwood 20
  • Two plays later, Ty Cox connected with Noah Koenigsknecht for a big play. The 80-yard touchdown reception made the score 14-0 Northwood, which is where the score remained after one quarter.
  • NMU responded with a strong start to the second quarter, scoring two touchdowns to level the score 14-14.
  • Northwood got back on the board with 4:42 remaining in the half. NU went 62-yards on 10-plays. Max Gonos capped the drive with a 22-yard field goal to put the Timberwolves back on top 17-14.
  • NMU came right back with a field goal of their own with 1:52 remaining to tie the score 17-17.
  • NU was able to get the final points of the half, set up by a 57-yard kick return by Brock Franklin. Gonos connected on 30-yard field goal as time expired to put the Timberwolves on top 20-17 at the break.
  • The defenses were the story of the third quarter, as neither team was able to score, sending the game to the fourth with NU leading 20-17.
  • The Wildcats  took their first lead of the day early in the fourth, scoring a touchdown 1:16 in to go up 24-20.
  • NMU then added another touchdown on their following possession to get their advantage to 31-20.
  • Northwood got it back to a one-possession game with 3:51 remaining thanks to a Gonos 20-yard field goal to make the score 31-23.
  • The Wildcats got it back to a two-possession game with 46 seconds remaining on a field goal.
  • NU drove quickly into NMU territory and got a 42-yard field goal from Gonos to make the score 34-26 with four seconds remaining, which is how the game ended.
