INSIDE THE GAME

  • After five punts in the opening nine minutes of the game, the Glenville State defense came up with back-to-back big plays on defensive possessions to take the lead. A 22-yard interception return for a touchdown was followed just 1:26 later by a 41-yard fumble return for a TD give the Pioneers a 13-0 lead.
  • Northwood grabbed some momentum back on special teams on the extra point following the second touchdown. Stephen Douglas blocked the extra point and returned it 79-yards for two points for the Timberwolves.
  • The Pioneers were the better team in the second quarter, putting up a pair of touchdowns to take a 27-2 lead to the locker room.
  • After a scoreless third quarter, Glenville picked up its third defensive touchdown of the day on a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown to make the score 34-2.
  • Northwood earned its first touchdown of the season moments after the GSU touchdown. A Bryan Kinley 56-yard kickoff return set the Timberwolves up at the GSU 40. After a penalty to the Pioneers, Jacob Barlage found Mark Tocco for a 35-yard touchdown pass that made the score 34-9.
  • That was as close as NU would get, however, as Glenville scored the final 17 points of the contest to make the final 44-9.
