Mbaimba Tunkara Named G-MAC Defensive Athlete of the Week
MIDLAND, MICH. – Redshirt junior linebacker Mbaimba Tunkara from the Northwood University football team has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Defensive Athlete of the Week Monday (November 6).
This marks the fifth time this season Northwood has earned an Athlete of the Week, joining Stephen Douglas (Defense – September 18), Jacob Barlage (Offense – September 25), Brandon Ross (Defense – October 9) and Brandon Martin (Special Teams – October 30).
Tunkara led the Northwood defense in a 24-20 win over Thomas More, finishing with nine tackles, an interception, a tackle for loss, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. His interception came with 1:40 remaining in the game with the Timberwolves leading 24-20.
Northwood will wrap up its 2023 season with a road game at Walsh Saturday (November 11). Game time is set for Noon.
