Andy Durand and Mbaimba Tunkara Named All-Great Midwest

All-Great Midwest Football Team

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University football team placed two players on the All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) team, the league announced Thursday (November 16).

Senior kick returner Andy Durand and redshirt junior linebacker Mbaimba Tunkara and were both placed on the Second Team All-Great Midwest.

Tunkara registered 67 tackles, three sacks, 12 tackles for loss, two interceptions and a forced fumble this season. He finished the season ranked sixth in the G-MAC in tackles for loss and tied for 10th in interceptions. Tunkara was named the G-MAC Defensive Athlete of the Week for his effort against Thomas More, finishing with nine tackles, an interception, a tackle for loss, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry.

Durand was Northwood's primary punt returner this season, averaging 10.3 yards per return. He had a long return of 40-yards against Kentucky Wesleyan.  Durand ranked second in the G-MAC in punt return average. He added 329 yards receiving and a pair of touchdowns for the Timberwolves this season.

Northwood finished the year 5-6 overall, 5-4 in the G-MAC. NU won three more conference game than a year ago and earned their first winning record in league play since 2017.
