Leon Williams Named G-MAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week
MIDLAND, MICH. – Redshirt junior defensive back Leon Williams from the Northwood University football team has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Special Teams Athlete of the Week.
Williams is the Northwood football player to earn Athlete of the Week honorsthis season, joining Brock Cook (Defense – September 16) and Jacob Barlage (Offense – September 16).
Williams came up with a big play in Northwood's 49-42 win over Walsh. After Lake Boos blocked a field goal attempt, Williams scooped up the loose ball and returned it 25-yards for a touchdown. That score put the Timberwolves on top 35-14 in the third quarter.
The Timberwolves have now earned nine G-MAC Athletes of the Week over the last two seasons.
Northwood finished the season with a 6-5 overall record, its first winning season since 2017.
