Bio

The 2023 season will be E.J. Arnold's 15th at Northwood. This will be his eighth year serving as the Associate Head Coach. and returns to his role as the special teams coordinator for 2023. Arnold will also serve as the wide receivers coach.

Arnold spent his first 12 years at Northwood as special teams coordinator. During his time at Northwood, the Timberwolves special teams have become one of the best in the GLIAC. The Timberwolves have ranked among the national leaders in punting average, net punting, punt return average and kick return average. In 2017, the Timberwolves led the country in kickoff return average (30.1 yards per return). Chris Kollias set program records for punting average in a season and in a career, while Pat Sijan tied the school record for longest made field goal after connecting from 52 yards at Ashland.  Twelve of his players from special teams have earned All-GLIAC honors.

Arnold comes to Northwood after working the previous two seasons at Montana State.  He was the special teams coordinator in 2007 as well as the tight ends and kickers coach for the 2006-07 seasons.  Arnold was heavily involved with academic support as well for the Bobcats.  He also spent time as director of football operations and as video coordinator while at MSU.  Montana State went to the Division I Championship Subdivision quarterfinals during the 2006 season.

Prior to Montana State, Arnold was an assistant at the University of Texas at El Paso.  There he was a graduate assistant for offense, defense and special teams.  Arnold was also an assistant recruiting coordinator and an assistant director of football operations.  The Miners appeared in a pair of bowl games during Arnold’s tenure.

Arnold graduated from Albion college with a degree in physical education.  He was a coach for the Britons from 2001-04 after playing quarterback for two seasons.

Arnold and his wife Mandy live in Midland with their three children.
