Bio

The 2018 will be the third season with Avante Mitchell as a member of the Northwood University football staff. He will work with the defensive backs once again this season.

Mitchell comes to Northwood after three seasons as the defensive coordinator at Taylor University. During his time with the Trojans, Taylor ranked among the national leaders in NAIA in sacks all three seasons.

Prior to his time at Taylor, Mitchell spent two seasons at Concordia, where he held a number of roles. Mitchell was a defensive line coach, the defensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator as well as interim head coach. 

Mitchell has been active coaching in the Nike Football Training and the Elite 11 Camps. He also has worked camps at Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan.

A native of Detroit, Mitchell began his collegiate career playing football at the University of Louisville, before transferring to Wayne State University. He earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Mitchell and his wife Ebony have twins: a boy named Ahlon and a girl named Ahvon.
