      Now in his fifth season as head coach, Mike Sullivan became the seventh head coach in Northwood history December 7, 2007.

      Sullivan has registered 21 victories in his first five seasons, which included an impressive turnaround  during the 2009 season.  NU improved by five games over the 2008 season to finish at 7-3 overall.  The turnaround was the third best in all of Division II according to Somis Sports.  NU landed 10 players on the All-GLIAC teams, including four Second Team selections.

      Sullivan has been at Northwood for the past 10 seasons. He has served as the Associate Head Coach for the previous six seasons as well as the offensive line coach.

      The Timberwolves offensive line continued to be a strength in 2007, as Northwood placed all five starters on the All-GLIAC teams. Dan Marshall earned First Team Honors for the second straight season, while Mitch Krombach was placed on the second team.  Alan Drummond, Luke Krombach and Aaron Seaver were all placed on the Honorable Mention team. Northwood led the GLIAC in rushing yards (284 per game) while ranking fourth in the league in total offense (441 yards per game).

      Despite having to replace four starters on the line in 2006, Northwood’s rushing attack remained strong.  The Timberwolves finished second in the nation in rushing (264.7 yards per game) and featured a pair of All-GLIAC honorees (Dan Marshall, Luke Krombach).

      NU's 2005 offensive line was one of the biggest strengths of the team. The Timberwolves featured a pair of First Team All-GLIAC honorees (Nick Degg, Mike Marko), the GLIAC Freshman of the Year (Luke Krombach) and a Honorable Mention All-GLIAC performer (Ryan Bisson).

      Sullivan came to Northwood after holding the dual position of head football coach and athletic director at Pinconning High School in 1999. Prior to that role, he was an assistant coach at Saginaw Valley State under former head coach Jerry Kill from 1995-99. Sullivan was SVSU’s offensive line and tight ends coach during that span. He was also the recruiting coordinator and weight training co-coordinator.

      A native of Montrose, Sullivan graduated from Saginaw Valley State in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Emotional Impairment. He earned his master’s degree in Special Education. He and his wife Teresa have three daughters - Isabella, Adrianna and Guliana.
