Men's Basketball Earns 75-66 Win Over Ferris State

The Northwood University men's basketball team earned a 75-66 win over Ferris State University Thursday evening (January 17).

The win snaps Northwood's seven-game losing streak to FSU.  Northwood's last win over FSU came during the 2008-09 season.

The Timberwolves improved to 6-9 overall, 5-6 in the GLIAC.  FSU's falls to 8-7 overall, 7-4 in the GLIAC.

Ferris State was the better team early, jumping out to a 24-16 lead with 8:40 remaining in the first half.  Northwood responded to the deficit, going on a 9-2 run to make the score 29-28 at the break.  Northwood connected on 5-8 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes.

With Ferris State leading 46-44 with 10:15 remaining in the game, Northwood went on what proved to be the key run of the contest.  The Timberwolves would score 13 of the next 16 points to go up 57-49. FSU got back to within three points with 3:05 remaining, but NU responded by scored five straight points to clinch the victory.

For the game, Northwood finished with a season-best 58.3 percent field goal percentage (28-48), thanks in large part to NU getting five dunks.  NU also went 7-17 (41.2 percent) from behind the arc.  Ferris State finished at 43.6 percent (24-55) overall and 40.0 percent (4-10) from behind the arc.

The Timberwolves had four players finish in double figures.  Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./South Lake) lead the way for the Timberwolves with 21 points, 16 rebounds and six blocked shots . Andrew VanDierenDonck (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) added 14 points. Cameron Joyce (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent St. Mary) scored 12 points, while Booker Stoudmire (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) finished with 10 points.

Northwood will travel to Grand Valley State University Saturday afternoon (January 19).  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
