Men's Basketball Earns 69-66 Comeback Win Over Northern Michigan

The Northwood University men's basketball team earned a comeback 69-66 road win over Northern Michigan Saturday afternoon (February 23).

Northwood is now 12-13 overall, 11-10 in the GLIAC.  Northern Michigan falls to 5-20 overall, 4-17 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves scored the first six points of the game, but Northern Michigan led for the majority of the second half.  NMU led by as many as six, but a late rally by the Timberwolves evened the score at 28-28 entering halftime.  Both teams shot 46.2 percent from the floor, going 12-26 from the floor.

Northern Michigan came out strong to start the second half, scoring 10 of the first 12 points to go up 38-30 with 16:30 to go.  The Wildcats eventually led by as many as 14 and were up 66-53 with 4:33 remaining in the game when Northwood took control.  The Timberwolves scored the final 16 points of the game over the final 4:27.  NU trailed 66-63 with under a minute to go when senior forward Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper CC) knocked down a 3-pointer  to tie the game.  After a stop on defense, Northwood's Booker Stoudmire (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) connected on a 3-pointer with 3.1 seconds remaining to put Northwood on top for the first time since the score was 14-12.  Northwood then got the stop on defense to earn the win.

For the game, Northwood finished at 46.4 percent from the floor (26-56) while Northern Michigan shot 50.0 percent (26-52).  NU connected on 7-22 from 3-point range (31.8 percent) while Northern Michigan connected on 3-17 from beyond the arc (17.6 percent).

Five Timberwolves finished in double figures, led by Darvin Ham (Saginaw, Mich./Bridgeport) with 16.  Wilcox, Cameron Joyce (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent St. Mary's) and Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind.)  each added 12 points.  Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./South Lake) added 10 points.

Northwood will host Saginaw Valley State Saturday afternoon (March 2).  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
