Men's Basketball Falls To No. 25 Lake Superior State 82-70

The Northwood University men's basketball team dropped an 82-70 contest to No. 25 Lake Superior State Saturday afternoon (February 8).

NU falls to 15-10 overall, 11-6 in the GLIAC. LSSU is now 22-3 overall, 14-3 in the GLIAC.

The Lakers got off to a fast start in the game, going up 13-4 in the opening 4:30 minutes.  Northwood trailed 35-28 with less than four minutes to go in the first half when they went on a run. The Timberwolves scored the final 10 points of the half to take a 38-35 lead at the break. NU shot 48.3 percent from the floor (14-29) while LSSU finished at 40.0 percent (12-30).

The Lakers picked up their game on both ends of the floor in the second half, out-scoring Northwood 47-32 in the final 20 minutes. The Timberwolves trailed 57-55 with less than nine minutes to go, but the Lakers out-scored NU the 25-15 the rest of the way. Northwood committed eight turnovers in the final nine minutes of the game.

For the game, Northwood shot 45.8 percent from the floor (27-59) while LSSU connected on 42.9 percent of their shots (27-63). The 3-point line was a big key to the game, as the Lakers went 12-24 from beyond the arc (50.0 percent) while the Timberwolves went 2-15 (13.3 percent). LSSU also finished with a 21-9 edge in points off turnovers.

Northwood had four players finished in double figures, led by Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper). HE finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./Southlake) added 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Darvin Ham (Saginaw, Mich./Bridgeport) and Khalid King (Columbus, Ohio/North Carolina A&T) each added 11.

The Timberwolves will host Ferris State Thursday night (February 13). Game time is set for 8 p.m.
