Men's Basketball Drops 94-70 Exhibition Contest At Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, IND. – The Northwood University men's basketball team opened up their 2014-15 season with a 94-70 loss in an exhibition game at Indiana Thursday night (November 6).

The Timberwolves played well at the start, leading at each of the first three media timeouts of the game.  NU led by as many as seven in the opening 12 minutes of the game and held a 24-19 lead with just under eight minutes to go. But Indiana finished the half strong, eventually taking a 38-33 lead at halftime. Fouls were a big key to the opening half, as Northwood was whistled for 19 fouls in the opening half while Indiana were called for seven.

Indiana scored 13 of the first 17 points of the second half in the opening 2:44 of the second half to go up 51-37. Northwood fought but got no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

For the game, Northwood shot 42.2 percent from the floor (27-64), while Indiana finished at 47.4 percent (27-57). The Timberwolves connected on 10 3-pointers, while the Hoosiers made nine. The foul line is where Indiana earned the win, going 31-38 while Northwood finished 6-9.

Leading the way for Northwood was junior point guard Maurice Jones (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill/USC). He scored 19 points while adding four rebounds and four assists. Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind) added 13 points, while Khalid King (Columbus, Ohio/North Carolina A&T) added 12.

Northwood will finish their exhibition schedule with a game at Xavier Saturday (November 8). That game will tip off at 8 p.m.
