Men's Basketball Defeats St. Joseph's 92-83

SAGINAW, MICH. - The Northwood University men's basketball team defeated St. Joseph's 92-83 at Saginaw Valley State for the final GLIAC-GLVC Challenge on Saturday evening (November 15).

The Timberwolves finish the challenge 1-1, while St. Joe's falls to 0-2.

The first half saw very consistent effort from both teams with a tied score at 2, 6, 11 and 20 before the Timberwolves pulled ahead going on an 8-2 run and leading 28-22 at the 8:06 mark. NU continued to score to eventually take a 29-39 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the half. The Pumas would cut the lead to three at 3:39 but Northwood responded by taking a 48-38 advantage into halftime.

Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind.) scored double-figures in the first half for the second consecutive game. He went into the locker room with 14 points. Maurice Jones (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill/USC) added 13 in the opening period.

The Pumas cut the lead down to six in the first 2:13 to trail 51-45, but Northwood would respond by going on a 17-5 run to pull ahead 68-50 with 12:35 on the clock. Saint Joseph's would go on to knock down six three-pointers in the next 7:44 to pull within six at 82-76 with 4:51 on the clock. St. Joe's would get no closer the rest of the way.

For the game, Northwood shot 52.1 percent (38-73) from the floor and out-rebounded the Pumas 45-42. Four Timberwolves finished in double-figures, Langkabel led all scorers with 24 points and seven rebounds. Jones tallied 23 points, eight rebounds and five steals, while Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./South Lake) added 11 and Khalid King (Columbus, Ohio/North Carolina A&T) finished with 10 points.
