Men's Basketball Falls At Wayne State 69-59

DETROIT, MICH. – The Northwood University men's basketball team dropped a 69-59 contest at Wayne State Sunday afternoon (December 7).

Northwood falls to 3-3 overall, 0-2 in the GLIAC. Wayne State stands at 1-4 overall, 1-1 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves hit a 3-pointer on their first possession of the game, setting them up to hold the lead for nearly the entire first half. Northwood held seven point leads on two separate occasions before settling for a 31-29 advantage at halftime. NU shot just 38.5 percent from the floor in the half (10-26) but connected on five 3-pointers and went 6-8 from the foul line to earn the lead at the break.

Northwood gave up the lead with 12:16 remaining in the game and were unable to get it back. The Timberwolves trailed 53-51 with less than three minutes remaining in the game when the Warriors ended the game with one final run. Starting with a 3-pointer at the end of the shot clock, WSU scored 11 of the next 12 points to put the game away.

For the game, Wayne State finished with a big advantage in field goal percentage. The Warriors finished at 47.3 percent from the floor (26-55) compared to Northwood at 31.7 percent (19-60). After connecting on three of their first five 3-point attempts, Northwood finished the game 6-25 overall from beyond the arc (24.0 percent).

Maurice Jones (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill/USC) led Northwood with 22 points. He also added four assists and three steals. Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./Southlake) finished with eight points while grabbing a season-high 15 rebounds.

Northwood will host Walsh Thursday night (December 11). Game time is set for 8 p.m.
