Men's Basketball Falls At Lewis 86-79

ROMEOVILLE, ILL. – The Northwood University men's basketball team dropped an 86-79 non-conference contest at Lewis Wednesday night (December 17).

Northwood falls to 5-4 with the loss. Lewis improves to 7-1 with the win.

Lewis led for the majority of the opening half, but it was close throughout. Lewis matched it biggest lead of the half with its 43-36 advantage. Both teams shot well in half – Northwood finished at 54.2 percent (13-24) while Lewis shot 53.1 percent (17-32). The Flyers earned the lead thanks to big advantages in points in the paint (26-12) and points off turnovers (13-0).

The key run of the game came midway through the second half.  Northwood trailed 57-52 with 11:44 remaining in the game when Lewis went on a run. The Flyers scored 12 straight points to go up 69-52 with under nine minutes remaining. Northwood kept fighting back, however, getting the lead down to three at 82-79 with 33 seconds remaining. Lewis finished the game strong, scoring the final four points of the game to earn the win.

For the game, Northwood finished at 53.2 percent from the floor (25-47) while Lewis shot 56.6 percent (30-53). NU connected on eight three pointers to four for LU, but the Flyers earned the win with points in the paint (44-20), points off turnovers (17-8) and second chance points (12-5).

Maurice Jones (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill/USC) lead Northwood with 19 points, eight assists and eigth rebounds. Jermaine Myer s (Ajax, Ont./Fordham) had 15 points, while Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./Southlake) and Tony Johnson (Midland, Mich.) each had 11.

Northwood will play its final game of 2014 Sunday (December 21) against Windsor. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
