Men's Basketball Defeats Windsor 90-71

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's basketball team earned a 90-71 win over Windsor Sunday afternoon (December 21).

The contest was the final event of the calendar year for Northwood Athletics. The Timberwolves improved to 6-4 overall with the win. Windsor falls to 12-3 with the loss.

Windsor scored six of the first eight points of the game, but Northwood went on top for good at 10-9. The two teams each went on runs in the final 10 minutes of the half. The Timberwolves went on a 16-4 run to go up 26-13, only to see Windsor score 18 of the next 25 points to cut the NU lead to 31-29. Northwood finished the half by scoring seven of the final nine points to lead 38-31 at the break. Neither team shot well in the half – Northwood finished at 36.1 percent (13-36) while Windsor shot 34.9 percent (15-43).

The second half was wide-open, as the two teams combined to score 92 points. The Lancers cut the lead down to 59-52 when Northwood took over. NU scored 11 of the next 13 points to extend the advantage to 70-54. Windsor got no closer than 13 the rest of the way while Northwood led by as many as 21.  The Timberwolves shot 55.0 percent from the floor (22-40) after the break while the Lancers connected on 45.7 percent (16-35). Both teams connected on six 3-pointers in the second half.

Overall, Northwood finished at 46.1 percent (35-76) compared to 39.7 percent for Windsor (39.7 percent). The Timberwolves went 11-24 from 3-point range (45.8 percent), compared to Windsor at 7-30 (23.3 percent). NU finished with 21 assists and nine turnovers.

Four Timberwolves finished in double figures, led by junior guard Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind.). He scored a career-high 28 points, going 10-13 from the floor and 4-7 from 3-point range. Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./South Lake) and Maurice Jones (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill/USC) each had double-doubles in the victory. Bowles had 15 points, 14 rebounds and three steals, while Jones finished with 15 points, 10 assists and zero turnovers.

Northwood returns to action January 2 at Ashland. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
