Men's Basketball Earns 87-81 Win At #17 Ferris State

RECAP: Led by a career day from Jack Ammerman, Northwood men's basketball earns its fifth-straight win, claiming a dramatic 87-81 road win over No. 17 Ferris State Saturday.

FIRST HALF

• Ferris State led by four (20-16) early in the first half, but it was Northwood that was the better team the remainder of the opening 20 minutes.
• The Timberwolves went up 28-27 and led the remainder of the way, going up by as many as ten before taking a 41-32 lead at the break.
• Northwood had a strong shooting half to start the game, going 15-26 overall (57.7 percent) while making 4-13 from beyond the arc (30.8 percent).
• FSU went 11-23 overall (47.8 percent) but did go 4-8 from 3-point range (50.0) and 6-6 from the foul line.

SECOND HALF

• The Timberwolves got off to a good start in the second half, opening up a 55-39 edge with 16 minutes remaining.
• NU's lead stood at 57-45 with just over 13 minutes remaining when the Bulldogs went a big run in a small amount of time.
• FSU scored 15 straight points in two minutes, keyed by five NU turnovers, to give the Bulldogs a 60-57 lead.
• Ferris State led 64-61 with 9:30 remaining when Northwood responded with a run of their own. The Timberwolves netted 10 straight points to go back up 71-64 with 6:20 remaining.
• After Northwood got the lead to 80-70 with 3:26 remaining, the Bulldogs made one final push, getting the lead down to one thanks to nine straight points.
• Ammerman then made the biggest shot of the game, connecting on a 3-pointer with 33 seconds to go to get the lead back to four.
• With the score 83-81, NU missed the front end of two straight one and ones at the foul line, but the Northwood defense came up with two big stops to close out the win.
• Northwood's offense continued its red-hot shooting in the second half, going 17-29 overall (58.6 percent), 5-10 from 3-point range (50.0 percent) and 7-10 from the foul line (70.0 percent).
• Ferris State also had a big half offensively, making 16-30 overall (53.3 percent). FSU also went 5-10 from the foul line and 12-13 from the foul line in the final 20 minutes.
