Weston Kartes joined the Northwood University men's basketball staff as an assistant coach in the fall of 2018. He is entering his fourth year as a part of the program.

“I have been fortunate to work with West the last two seasons and his with video and analytics have played a major part in our recent success," said Head Coach Lonnie Griffin. "I know he will continue to help in our success in an expanded role in our program.”

Kartes will work directly with the front court players. He will help to develop and implement the defensive scheme for the program.

On top of being an assistant coach for the Timberwolves, Kartes acts as the video and analytics coordinator helping guide them to their first conference tournament berth in four seasons and improving their record from the previous year. Kartes also runs the junior varsity program at Northwood.

Prior to his time at Northwood Kartes was an assistant coach for the Alma College Scots for two seasons while getting his graduate degree in Sports Administration from Central Michigan University. The Scots made the conference playoffs in 2017, making it three straight playoff berths for the Scots.

Kartes earned an undergraduate degree from Alma College in Elementary Education and during that time was a student-athlete for men’s basketball and men’s golf for two seasons. During his time as a member of the basketball program, the Scots made two straight conference playoffs including a MIAA tournament championship and Elite Eight run in 2016 wrapping up a 24-7 season, making it the best in the program’s history.
