The Northwood University men's soccer team earned its third straight win Sunday afternoon (September 16), defeating Findlay 1-0.
The Timberwolves are now 3-0-1 overall, 3-0 in the GLIAC. Findlay falls to 3-2 overall, 0-2 in the GLIAC.
The opening 45 minutes saw both teams create chances, but the game remained scoreless heading to the break. Northwood held a 7-5 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
The lone goal of the contest came in the 58th minute. Jack Smith (Lancaster, England) took a long feed from Michael Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) down the right side of the field. Smith then put a high volley in over the keeper to put Northwood up 1-0.
Findlay had opportunities late, but a combination of strong play in the final third and a pair of great saves by keeper Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark/Tornbjerg) gave Northwood the shutout victory.
For the match, Northwood finished with a 15-10 advantage in shots. NU also had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Sterobo made five saves to earn his third clean sheet in four games.
Northwood will travel to Ashland Friday (September 21). Match time is set for 4 p.m.
