The Northwood University men's soccer team snapped a three-match losing streak with a 1-0 win over Walsh Sunday afternoon (September 30).
The Timberwolves are now 4-3-1 overall, 4-3 in the GLIAC. Walsh falls to 2-7 overall, 2-5 in the GLIAC.
Northwood netted the lone goal of the contest in the 11th minute. Freshman Sam Nair (London, England/Nower Hill) used great footwook down the right side of the field and beat the Walsh keeper low to the right side of the net. The goal was Nair's team-leading fifth of the season.
The Timberwolves controlled the play in the second half but were unable to net a second goal. Northwood out-shot the Cavaliers 10-1 in the final 45 minutes.
For the match, Northwood finished with a 19-7 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Freshman keeper Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark/Tornbjerg) made four saves for his fourth clean sheet of the season.
Northwood will host Lake Erie Friday afternoon (October 5). Match time is set for 2 p.m.
