Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Double Overtime Contest At Saginaw Valley State

The Northwood University men's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 double overtime contest at rival Saginaw

Northwood is now 7-5-1 overall, 6-4 in the GLIAC. SVSU stands at 10-2-3 overall, 7-2-2 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves played a strong opening half, but were unable to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes. Northwood finished the half with 10-3 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corners.

The second half was an evenly played 45 minutes of action with the defenses once again ruling the contest. Shots were in favor of Northwood 7-6 while the Cardinals held a 3-1 advantage in corners.

The majority of overtime proved to be more of the same for the two teams until the final moments of double overtime. Both teams got three shots off in the opening overtime session without scoring. Neither team got an attempt off until SVSU scored with 30 seconds remaining in the game, giving them the victory.

For the match, Northwood finished with a 20-13 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. Both keepers made three saves in the match.

Northwood will host Ashland Sunday (October 21). Match time is set for 2:30 p.m.
