Men's Soccer Tops Findlay 1-0

The Northwood University men's soccer team defeats Findlay 1-0 this afternoon (October 27).

The Timberwolves improve to 5-7-1 on the season, 5-6-1 in the conference. The Oilers fall to 5-9-1 overall, 3-9 in the GLIAC. Northwood topped Findlay in their first meeting (September 29) 2-1 in Midland, Mich.

Play remained fairly equal for a majority of the first half. That changed in the 32nd minute when James DeCosemo (Stokesley, England) served a ball into the box to be headed to the back of the net by senior Liam MacHugh (Toronto, Canada/Neil McNeil). The Timberwolves defense was stellar, only allowing a single shot for the remainder of the half. Northwood held a slight advantage in shots (5-4) for the first period.

Northwood continued with the pressure throughout the second half, registering six shots with three of which on goal. On the other side of the ball, the Oilers were unable to capitalize on their six corner kicks or five shots to score the equalizer. The Timberwolves edged Findlay in shots 11-9 for the match.

Northwood will be back in action in Saginaw to take on the Cardinals this Wednesday (October 30). Start time is set for 4 p.m.
