Men's Soccer Falls To Tiffin 2-1

The Northwood University men's soccer team dropped their final home contest of the season to Tiffin 2-1 Sunday afternoon (November 3).

Northwood finishes their regular season 5-9-1, 5-8-1 in the GLIAC. Tiffin finishes 11-2-3 and 9-2-3 in the GLIAC.

Tiffin was the first to punch, netting an early goal just past the eight minute mark. Despite solid play, there were few scoring opportunities for the remainder of the half. A combined six shots (TU: 4, NU: 2) and one Northwood save was recorded for the opening 45 minutes. Tiffin was unable to connect on four corner kicks to keep the score 1-0 entering halftime.

Neither team was able to generate much offense for the early part of the second half until Tiffin's Oliver Verdult put the Dragons ahead 2-0 in the 75th minute on a finish off of a free kick. Northwood turned on the pressure from this point on, registering two shots and three corner kicks in the final 15 minutes. That intensity resulted in Jean-Baptiste Gaillac (Caen, France) netted the lone goal for Northwood at 82:13 on an assist by Laurence McKay (Grimsby, England). Gaillac headed in a cross through traffic for his first goal of his career.

Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark/Tornbjerg) recorded four saves in the match and was instrumental in eliminated multiple scoring chances for the Dragons by taking away crosses in the box. Tiffin finished with 12 shots to Northwood's eight. With the strong push at the end, Northwood held the advantage in corner kicks 7-6.

The Timberwolves will compete in the GLIAC Tournament on Tuesday (November 5). The opponent, time and location of the match has yet to be determined.
