Men's Soccer Tops Malone 4-0

The Northwood University men's soccer team topped Malone University 4-0 on Sunday afternoon (October 12).

The Timberwolves improve to 8-2-1 overall, 6-2-1 in the GLIAC. The Pioneers fall to 1-9-1 on the year, 0-8-1 in the GLIAC.

NU was able to control possession for a majority of the opening period, entering halftime with a 1-0 advantage. Senior Michael Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) earned his second goal of the season off a header on a corner kick. Jack Smith (Milnthorpe, England) delivered in the corner to claim the assist.

The Timberwolves put on the pressure throughout the second half, netting a goal at 50:39 when junior Adam Thomas (High Wycombe, England / John Hampden) put away a rebound in the box to put Northwood ahead 2-0. In the 68th minute, Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Chippewa Valley) finished a penalty kick to earn his fifth goal of the season. Finally, freshman Bryan Lawson (Troy, Mich. / Athens) joined the mix for the first goal of his career at 78:22. Lawson received a 40-yard pass from fellow freshman Brady Cole (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem) before beating two defenders, leaving him one-on-one with the keeper. Lawson put the ball to the far post on the ground to beat the keeper for NU's fourth goal.

For the match, the Timberwolves outshot the Pioneers 25-10 and also had nine corner kicks, to MU's three. Northwood University travels to Ohio Dominican on Friday (October 17). Match is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
