Men's Soccer Places Three On All-GLIAC Teams

2019 All-GLIAC Teams

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's soccer team placed three players on the 2019 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) team, the league announced Thursday night (November 14).

Junior forward Jack Doyle and senior defender Josh Wates were each named First Team All-GLIAC. Senior goalkeeper Corbin Cecchini was recognized on the Honorable Mention Team.

Doyle has posted a breakthrough junior season, currently standing with nine goals and six assists, good for 24 points in 17 games. In his first season at NU a year ago, Doyle finished the season with three goals and one assist. He currently is tied for the GLIAC lead in goals and points while standing third in assists.

This marks the second time Wates' career he has earned All-GLIAC honors, as he was named Honorable Mention in 2016. A four-year starter in the back for Northwood, he has two goals for the Timberwolves this season. For his career, Wates has now scored five goals. He has made 66 starts in 67 career appearances for Northwood.

Cecchini has played every minute of every game for the Timberwolves this season. He stands with an 11-7-1 overall record with a 1.09 goals against average. He currently leads the GLIAC in saves (86) while standing second in goals against and save percentage (.804). Cecchini is a three-year starter for the Timberwolves and ranks second in most career categories in program history, including wins (31) and shutouts (18).

Northwood, the fourth seed in the GLIAC Tournament, will face top-seeded Parkside Friday (November 15). Game time is set for 11 a.m. (ET).
