Gharsalli, Phillips Earn USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood men's track and field team picked up four U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors, as announced by the USTFCCCA on Monday (February 26).

On the men's side, a total of 559 earned All-Region honors from 124 different institutions.

Freshman Mason Phillips picked up three All-Region honors himself in the 60 meter dash, 200 meters, and long jump after a stellar weekend at the GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships to be named the Freshman Track Athlete of the Meet. Phillips finished second in the long jump (7.53 meters/24 feet-8.5 inches), third in the 60 (6.84 seconds), and third in the 200 (21.51 seconds). All three marks are NCAA provisional marks.

Junior Rami Gharsalli was named All-Region in the 60 meter hurdles. His time of 7.93 seconds in the event was set at the SVSU Jet's Pizza Invitational (January 26), well surpassing the NCAA provisional mark.

The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three have earned the All-Region distinction for the season. The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – match those used during the cross country season.

The 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place on March 9-10 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
