Five Track & Field Athletes Earn USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood men's track and field teams had five athletes earn a total of nine U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors, as announced Tuesday afternoon (February 26).

Sophomore Mason Phillips accounted for five All-Region honors himself after turning in all NCAA provisional marks. Phillips was the top regional performer in the 60 meter dash with his time of 6.73 seconds at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic (February 1). He also ranks second regionally in the 200 meters (21.22 seconds), fourth in the long jump (7.30 meters/23 feet-11.5 inches) and fifth in the 400 meters. His fifth honor came as a member of the distance medley relay. Phillips is now an eight-time All-Region honoree.

Senior Rami Gharsalli claimed All-Region honors in the 60 meter hurdles for the third time in his career. His season best time of 7.91 seconds from the GLIAC Indoor Championships is a NCAA provisional mark that ranks him second in the region and fifth in the nation.

Freshmen Chase Clark and Netunji Paige, sophomore Brian Patrick and Phillips earned All-Region honors in the distance medley relay. The quartet owns the second-fastest time in the Midwest region, clocking a NCAA provisional time of 9:53.12 at the GVSU Big Meet Saturday. This is the first All-Region honor for Clark, Paige and Patrick.

The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three have earned the All-Region distinction for the season. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – match those used during the cross country season.

The 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place March 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
