NCAA INDOOR T&F: Phillips Runs Into D2's All-Time Performance List; Gharsalli And Phillips Advance To Finals
NCAA DIVISION II INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS – DAY 1
PHILLIPS RUNS ONE OF D2'S ALL-TIME BESTS, TWO EVENT QUALIFIER
Mason Phillips qualified for two event finals and will race for All-American honors. He first won his heat in the 60 meter dash to earn an automatic qualification to the finals. His time of 6.74 seconds puts him as the third-fastest qualifier for the finals and is .01 off of his personal best.
He later returned to the track for the 200 meter prelims and posted the second-fastest qualifying time, clocking a tremendous time of 20.91 seconds to break his school record of 21.22 seconds set at the SVSU Holiday Open. With his performance, Phillips now ranks among the best in Division II history. He owns the third best all-time performance at 200 meters on an oversized track.
Phillips will become Northwood's second All-American in the 60 meter dash and the first in school history at 200 meters pending the completion of the finals.
GHARSALLI INTO 60MH FINALS
Rami Gharsalli advanced to the 60 meter hurdles finals after clocking the third-fastest qualifying time in the prelims. He placed second in his heat with a time of 8.00 seconds. He will look end his indoor career as a two-time All-American in the event upon finishing Saturday's final.
