Track & Field Begins Outdoor Campaign At Adidas Winthrop Invitational

ADIDAS WINTHROP INVITATIONAL – DAY 1

MEET: adidas Winthrop Invitational

LOCATION: Iwrin Belk Complex – Rock Hill, S.C.

RECAP: The track and field teams kicked off the outdoor season with the first day of the adidas Winthrop Invitational. Jetaeia Lewis qualifies for the event finals, while Jessica Marvin and Travis Scheppers posted personal and/or collegiate best marks in their respective events.

LEWIS QUALIFIES FOR 200 METER FINALS

Jetaeia Lewis got her senior year of outdoor off to a strong start. She claimed an eighth place finish in the 200 meter dash in 25.31 seconds to move herself into fifth all-time in program history. Her time qualified her for the event finals tomorrow that will be run at 3:20 p.m.

Earlier in the day, Lewis placed 13th overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.22 seconds. Her time moves her into third all-time in NU history and is just .04 seconds shy of matching her collegiate best and the school record of 12.18 seconds set by Kara Young in 2016.

INSIDE THE MEET

Senior Heaven Powell got her senior season underway with a clearance of 1.60 meters (5 foot-3 inches) in the high jump. Her mark earned her a fourth place finish in the competition.

Freshman Andrew Davis posted solid season opening times with a pair of performances in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. He placed 16th in the 200 meters in 22.21 seconds and finished 17th in the 100 meters in 10.89 seconds.

Sophomore Jessica Marvin earned a new personal best in the hammer throw. Her best throw on the day came on her third and final attempt, landing at 41.25 meters (135 feet-4 inches). Her previous personal best was 35.01 meters (114 feet-10 inches) set at last year's adidas Winthrop Invitational.

Freshman Travis Schepers posted an all-time collegiate best in the shot put with a distance of 14.29 meters (46 feet-10.75 inches). His mark puts him in a tie with teammate Nathan Powers as the eighth-best shot putter outdoors in school history.

UP NEXT: Day 2 of the adidas Winthrop Invitational will begin with the men's hammer throw at 8 a.m.
