Rami Gharsalli Earns GLIAC Commissioner’s Award

2019 Winter Commissioner's Award Winners

MIDLAND, MICH. - Rami Gharsalli, a senior on the Northwood University men's track & field team, has been named a recipient of a Commissioner's Award from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The awards are presented after the Fall, Winter, and Spring athletic seasons to six female and six male student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and on the fields of play.

Gharsalli has been a standout for the Northwood men's track and field team from his first day on campus. During the 2019 indoor season, he placed third at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championship in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 7.94. Gharsalli also claimed the GLIAC title in the event as well after running 7.91. He won the 60-meter hurdles at four different meets in the indoor season.

Over his career, Gharsalli has won three GLIAC championships -- the 60 meter hurdles twice indoors and the 110 hurdles outdoors. The three-time All-American is also the NU school record holder in the 60-meter hurdles (7.81). Gharsalli has also been named a CoSIDA Academic All-America, a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree and the 2017 USTFCCCA DII Scholar Athlete of the Year. Gharsalli will graduate this spring with a degree in Entertainment, Sport & Promotion Management with a 3.74 GPA.
