Track & Field Finds the Podium On Day One Of Indoor Championships

OVERVIEW

MEET: GLIAC Indoor Championships

LOCATION: Allendale, MI – Grand Valley State  

RECAP: The Timberwolves Track & Field teams were back on the track for day one of the GLIAC Indoor Championshipss (February 26). 

Northwood throwers brought home big points totals and a gold for the Timberwolves while multiple other athletes also brought home podium finishes.

Northwood's men currently sit in second in the men's team standings with 39 points. Northwood's women currently sit in sixth with 9 points in the women's standings.

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN

  • Nathan Powers won the GLIAC Indoor Championship in the weight throw event by posting a new school record at 20.29m. This throw was good enough for third best throw across DII this season. 
  • Dylan Powers scored three points for the T-Wolves by hitting the provisional mark and setting a new personal best at 18.66m in the weight throw.
  • The Northwood men's DMR team took silver at 9:55.78. The DMR team consisted of Stephen Barker, freshman Josh JonesDillan Haviland, and Trestin Mancillas-Finnerty.
  • Zane Aldrich got the Timberwolves a point in the 5k with a 14:48.03 eighth place finish. 
  • Brandon Boyd moved into fifth in school history with his first sub fifteen 5k. Booyd finished just behind Aldrich at 14:54.44.
  • The long jump trio of Xzavia Price (6.89m, Bronze), Jon Kelm (6.62m), and Jordan Taiwo (6.21m) scored 12 points for NU.
  • Price also qualified for 200m and 60m finals tomorrow. 
  • Taiwo sits in fourth with 2395 points after four events of the heptathalon.
  • Thomas Heslip set a personal best in the 400m at 50.17 to send him to tomorrows 400m finals.
  • Ben Beaulieu qualified himself for the 60m hurdle finals. 

 INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • Taky Ezell took silver in the weight throw by shattering her previous best in the weight throw with a 19.28m toss. Her toss cleared the provisional mark and moves to 12th across DII this season.
  • Debra Wallace ran a 7.88 60m dash that qualified her for tomorrow's finals. Wallace also qualified for the 200m finals with a time of 25.86.

UP NEXT 

The Timberwolves Track & Field teams are back tomorrow for the GLIAC Indoor Championships final day (February 27). Events begin tomorrow at 10 AM with the finish of both the pentathlon and heptathalon.
