Cross Country Opens Season At Northwood Invite
OVERVIEW – NORTHWOOD INVITE
LOCATION: Midland, Mich. – Fisher Family Trails
RECAP: The Northwood University cross country teams opened their 2019 season by hosting the Northwood Invite Saturday (September 7).
INSIDE THE WOMEN'S RACE (5,000 METERS)
- Northwood placed fourth overall in the women's event with a team score of 113.
- Regional powers Saginaw Valley and Northern Michigan tied for first with 32 points, followed by Ashland with 82 points. Lake Superior State totaled 122 points.
- A total of 64 runners competed in the race, with Morgan Fuerst of SVSU coming out on top (18:17.6).
NORTHWOOD RESULTS:
- Lainey Veenkant – Ninth overall: 19.10.8 (first career race)
- Amanda Aquinaga – 27th: 20:27.2 (personal-best)
- Madison Brooks – 30th: 20:36.8
- Katherine Wozniak – 35th: 21:01.2
- Amanda Kalkman – 50th: 23:09.2
INSIDE THE MEN'S RACE (6,000 METERS)
- Northwood placed third with a team score of 59.
- Saginaw Valley was the overall winner at 26, followed by Ashland at 53. Lake Superior State was fourth at 118.
- A total of 55 runners competed in the race. CarLee Stimpfel of SVSU was the winner at 18:24.6
