Softball Wins Pair At Rebel Spring Games

The Northwood University softball team improved to 4-2 on the season with a pair of wins at the Rebel Spring Games Saturday (March 9).  The Timberwolves defeated Caldwell 7-1 before downing Southwest Minnesota State 15-0 in five innings.

Caldwell is now 2-2 overall on the season.  SW Minnesota State stands at 0-4.

In the Caldwell game, Northwood got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning on a RBI single by freshman Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc./Mary D. Bradford).  Caldwell tied the game in the top of the third, but the Timberwolves responded with three runs of their own in the third.  Stacey Klonowski (Canton, Mich. /Plymouth), Marisa Borkowski (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) and Sam Zaborowski (Taylor, Mich./Cabrini) each had RBI singles in the third inning.  Northwood then capped the scoring in the sixth with three more runs, two of which scored on a Mallory Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) two-run single.  Freshman Casey Brown (Hudson, Ohio) overcame six walks to allow just one run in a complete-game effort.  She gave up just two hits while striking out a pair.

Northwood used three big innings to earn the win over Southwest Minnesota State, as the Timberwolves plated four in the second, five in the third and six in the fifth innings.  After not registering an extra base hit against Caldwell, the Timberwolves had seven against SWMS en route to 16 hits overall.  Paige Shields (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Regina) went 3-5 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and four RBI's.  Klonowski had three doubles and a pair of RBI's, while Lindsey Obremski (Williamsburg, Va./Dubois Area) added three hits.  Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) had a big day both at the plate and in the circle.  She allowed two hits while tossing five shutout innings and also had two hits, a double and five total RBI's.  Her three-run double in the fifth inning rounded out the scoring.

Northwood will take on St. Cloud State and Minnesota State Moorhead Sunday afternoon (March 10).  Game times are set for 3 and 5 p.m., respectively.
