Softball Earns Two Wins At Rebel Spring Games - Now 6-2 Overall

The Northwood University softball team improved to 6-2 on the season with a pair of victories at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida Sunday afternoon (March 10).  The Timberwolves defeated Saint Cloud State 2-0 before downing Minnesota State Moorhead 7-2.

Northwood is now 4-0 at the Rebel Spring Games.

Against St. Cloud, senior third baseman Paige Shields (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Regina) got Northwood off to a good start by leading off the game with her first home run of the season.  That remained the lone run of the game until the seventh inning, when freshman Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc./Mary D. Bradford) had an RBI single that plated Marisa Borkowski (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson).  That was all that sophomore pitcher Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) would need.  She would allow three hits (all singles) while tossing her second straight shutout.

Northwood got off to an early lead against Moorhead as well, thanks to an RBI double by Lindsey Obremski (Williamsburg, Va./Dubois Area). The Timberwolves then scored four in the fourth and two more in the fifth to go up 6-0. MSUM would score two in the sixth but got no closer.  Obremski finished with two hits and two RBI's, while Shields added two hits and an RBI. Stacey Klonowski (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) and Mallory Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Central) each added RBI's as well.  Catie Kaliszuk (Tecumseh, Mich.) held Moorhead hitless over the first five innings, eventually allowing two runs on three hits in a complete game effort for her first win of the season.

Northwood will play two more games on Monday (March 11).  They will take on Lees-McRae at 9 a.m. before facing Minnesota State-Mankato at 11 a.m.
