Softball Splits Pair At Rebel Spring Games

The Northwood softball team split a pair of games at the Rebel Spring Games Monday afternoon (March 11).  The Timberwolves earned a 9-1 win over Lees-McRae before falling 8-0 to Minnesota State-Mankato.

Northwood is now 7-3 overall on the season.  NU is now 5-1 at the Rebel Spring Games.

As they have done throughout the season, Northwood jumped out early in the game against Lees-McRae.  The Timberwolves plated three in the first and one more in the second to go up 4-0.  Lindsey Obremski (Williamsburg, Va./Dubois Area), Sam Zaborowski (Taylor, Mich./Cabrini), Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc./Mary D. Bradford) and Stacey Klonowski (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) each drove in runs for Northwood in the opening two innings. Lees-McRae scored a run in the fourth to make the score 4-1, but NU responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth.  Klonowski had a two-run double, while Marisa Borkowski and Kelsey Beck added RBI hits of their own.  The Timberwolves then finished off the game in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI groundout by Lyndsey Look (Pinconning, Mich.).  Emily Somerville (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek) earned the win in the circle, allowing one run in four innings of work.

Northwood's five-game winning streak came to an end in game two against Minnesota State Mankato, who have now won 11-straight games.  The Mavericks scored two in the first, three in the third and three more in the sixth to earn the win.  NU had three hits in the game.

The Timberwolves will take on Minnesota State Moorhead and Augustana Tuesday (March 12).  Game times are set for 9 & 11 a.m.
