Softball Sweeps Malone - 15-0 & 11-0

The Northwood University softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Malone Friday afternoon (March 29).  Northwood won game one 15-0 in five innings before posting an 11-0 victory in game two.

The doubleheader was the home opener for the Timberwolves.  Northwood is now 13-10 overall, 3-1 in the GLIAC.  Malone falls to 6-10 overall, 0-6 in the GLIAC.

Northwood earned the momentum in game one early, plating three runs in the first inning.  The Timberwolves then scored two more in the third before a big fifth inning put the contest away.  NU scored 10 runs in the fifth, highlighted by six extra base hits.  Marisa Borkowski (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) had the biggest hit of the inning, a long three-run homer that made the score 11-0.  Five different Timberwolves drove in at least two runs in the game: Borkowski, Natalie Lampman (Madison Heights, Mich./Bishop Foley), Stacey Klonowski (Canton, Mich./Plymouth), Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc./Mary D. Bradford) and Sam Zaborowski (Taylor, Mich./Cabrini). Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) tossed five shutout innings to earn her sixth win of the season.

Northwood took a 2-0 lead in the third inning of game two on RBI's by Tostrud and Rachel Hammer.  The score remained that way until the seventh inning when the Timberwolves again put together a big inning.  NU plated nine runs in the seventh, capped by a Klonowski grand slam.  She finished the game 3-3 with three runs scored and four RBI's.  Hammer added three RBI's as well.  Tostrud and Casey Brown (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) combined on a one-hit shutout for the Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves will take on Ashland in a doubleheader Saturday (March 29).  First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
