Softball Sweeps Walsh

The Northwood University softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Walsh Saturday afternoon (April 6).  The Timberwolves won both games by the score of 2-0.

Northwood is now 17-12 overall, 7-3 in the GLIAC. Walsh falls to 11-9 overall, 2-6 in the GLIAC.

All of the runs scored in game one took place on one play in the top of the fourth inning.  Junior Sam Zaborowski (Taylor, Mich./Cabrini) nailed a two-run homer, her fourth of the season.  That was all the offense that sophomore Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) would need.  She tossed a complete game shutout, striking out six while allowing four hits to improve to 9-4 on the season.

Northwood scored single runs in the second and fifth innings to earn the win in game two.  Brittany Merner (Solon, Ohio) drove home Marisa Borkowski (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) in the second to put the Timberwolves up 1-0.  Then in the fifth, Rachel Hammer (Commerce, Mich./ Lakeland) plated Stacey Klonowski (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) with a single to make the score 2-0.  Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc./Mary D. Bradford) picked up her third win in the circle by tossing five shutout innings.  She allowed two hits while striking out three.

Northwood will finish their weekend trip to Ohio with a doubleheader at Lake Erie.  The doubleheader will get under way at Noon.
