Softball Drops Pair To Findlay

Softball Drops Pair To Findlay

The Northwood University softball team dropped a pair of games to Findlay Sunday afternoon (April 14).  The Oilers won game one 15-8 before posting a 17-6 victory in game two.

Northwood falls to 19-14 overall, 9-5 in the GLIAC.  Findlay improves to 17-9 overall, 5-7 in the GLIAC.

After falling behind 4-1 heading into the bottom of the third inning of game one, Northwood rallied back to plate five runs to go up 6-4.  But the Oilers offense stayed hot, scoring five in the fourth and one in the sixth to lead 10-6.  NU got a pair of runs in the sixth to get within two at 10-8, but Findlay came right back with five more runs in the seventh to take the game.  Paige Shields (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Regina) went 3-4 in the game with a pair of home runs, while Rachel Hammer (Commerce, Mich./Lakeland) had a home run and three RBI's.

Northwood got off to a good start in game two, scoring four runs in the first inning, three of which scored on a two-run homer by Marisa Borkowski (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson).  That lead was short lived, as the Oilers put together a huge second inning. The first 11 batters of the inning all reached base and eventually scored as a part of the Findlay 12-run inning.  Northwood would score a pair in the fourth to make the score 13-6, but the Oilers once again responded with four runs to wrap up the game.  Stacey Klonowski (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) had a home run, two hits and two RBI's to lead the Northwood offense.

NU will travel to Tiffin for a doubleheader Thursday (April 18).  First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
