Softball Places Pair on NFCA All-Midwest Region Team

2013 NFCA All-Region Teams

The Northwood University softball team placed a pair of players on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Midwest Region teams Friday afternoon (May 10).

Junior shortstop Stacey Klonowski (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) earned First Team honors, while junior first baseman Sam Zaborowski (Taylor, Mich./Cabrini) was placed on the Second Team.

NFCA member coaches in each of the eight regions selected this year's All-Region teams and all honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three NFCA Division II All-American squads to be announced next week.

Klonowski has turned in one of the finest individual seasons in Northwood history.  She ranked in the top seven in the GLIAC in 12 different categories.  Klonowski ended the season batting .415 with nine home runs and 34 RBI's, all of which rank her in the top-five in the conference.  All of those marks also rank her in the top-10 leaders in a season in Northwood history.  Despite being a junior, Klonowski ranks second in Northwood history with 22 home runs and a .377 career average while ranking third with 37 career doubles.

Zaborowski also had one of the best seasons in school history.  She finished the year ranked third in the GLIAC with a .436 batting average.  Zaborowski also ranks second in the conference with 41 RBI's and a .503 on-base percentage as well as third with a .657 slugging percentage.   Her name is now found throughout the single-season record book at Northwood, ranking third in RBI's, fourth in batting average, seventh in doubles, eighth in home runs and ninth in hits.
