Softball Splits Pair In Florida

The Northwood University softball team split a pair of games in Florida Sunday afternoon (March 10). The Timberwolves defeated No. 25 Shippensburg 7-1 before falling to Winona State 7-2.

The games took place at the NTC Softball Complex in Clermont.

NORTHWOOD 7, #25 SHIPPENSBURG 1

Northwood got out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning after both Stacey Klonowski (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) and Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc. / Mary D. Bradford) crossed the plate. Shippensburg scored in the bottom of the second to cut the lead 2-1. Sam Zaborowski (Taylor, Mich./Cabrini) scored the third run for NU in the top of the third on a Klonowski triple. Northwood then plated a pair of runs in the fifth to put the game away, with Tostrud and Natalie Lampman (Madison Heights, Mich. / Bishop Foley) picking up RBI's. Lampman finished the game for the Timberwolves with a two-run homerun in the seventh inning. Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) pitched the entire seven innings allowing just three hits and a single run against 26 batters faced.

WINONA STATE 7, NORTHWOOD 2

The Timberwolves got off to a good start against the Warriors, plating a run in the first inning thanks to an RBI single by Lindsay Obremski (DuBois, Pa./Dubois Area). But WSU bounced back big in the top of the second, plating six runs. NU scored its final run of the game in the seventh on an RBI single by Lauren Look (Pinconning, Mich.). Ashley Lynn (Garden City, Mich.) had two hits to lead the way for Northwood.

Northwood will play Mercy and Alderson-Broaddus Monday (March 10) at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively.
