Softball Drops Pair To Ashland

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University softball team dropped a pair of GLIAC games to Ashland Friday afternoon (April 24). Defense was the key in both games, as NU allowed four homeruns and committed a total of eight errors on the day. Northwood lost 7-1 in game one before dropping a 6-4 contest in game two.

The Timberwolves fall to 15-24 overall, 12-12 in the GLIAC. The Eagles improve to 34-6 on the year, 19-5 in the GLIAC with the wins.

Northwood got on the board early, plating a run in the first inning for NU's only lead of the night. After the Timberwolves didn't allow a single hit through three complete innings, the Eagles knocked in three runs in the third on four hits. AU then plated a pair in the fifth, one in the sixth and another in the seventh for a 7-1 win.

Ashley Lynn (Garden City, Mich.) hit two of NU's five hits in game one. Lindsay Obremski (Williamsburg, Va. / Dubois Area) finished with the Timberwolves' lone RBI.

The Eagles started game two with a homerun by the leadoff batter, continuing the momentum from game one. After scoring two more runs in the bottom of the second, NU responded with a score in the top of the third to cut the lead 3-1. The Eagles then plated two runs in the bottom of the inning on a pair of NU errant plays. The Timberwolves came back again in the fourth to score three runs on four hits, cutting the lead to 5-4. Ashland finished with another run in the fifth before taking a 6-4 win.

Ashley Lynn finished with two hits and a run scored, while Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich. / Bay City Western) went 2-for-3 and scored a run in game two. Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc. / Mary D. Bradford) registered two of NU's three RBI's. Casey Brown (Hudson, Ohio) and Kayla Gust (Port Hope, Mich.) shared pitching duties in game two.

Northwood will host Lake Erie tomorrow (April 25) to close out the 2015 regular season. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. Saturday is Senior Day, where all seniors will be recognized. Also, be sure to wear pink for Think Pink Week. CLICK HERE for all of the softball promotions.
