Softball Splits Pair In Florida

RECAP: Northwood split a pair of games at the PFX Spring Games Tuesday afternoon (March 7), falling to Minnesota State Moorhead 13-4 in six innings before defeating Notre Dame (Ohio) 9-1 in five innings.
MINNESOTA STATE MOORHEAD/NORTHWOOD HIGHLIGHTS
- Two days after Northwood posted a 7-0 win over Minnesota State Moorhead, it was the Dragons who jumped out to the early lead. MSUM score two in the first and two in the second to open up a 4-0 lead.
- Northwood responded in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs of their own, thanks to a two-run single by Courtney Wensley which scored Hayley D'Avilar and Jennifer Wontorcik.
- But the Dragons came right back with a big inning of their own, scoring five runs to go up 9-2.
- Northwood got one back in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly by Sydni Pauley.
- After Moorhead hit a two run homer in the top of the fifth to go up 11-3, the Timberwolves stayed in the game for another inning thanks to a solo homer by Andria Gietl. Her second home run of the season made the score 11-4.
- MSUM ended the game in the following inning with two runs while holding the Timberwolves off the board.

NOTRE DAME (OHIO)/NORTHWOOD HIGHLIGHTS
- Having lost three straight games, Northwood came out fast en route to breaking the streak. The Timberwolves scored two in the top of the first inning on another two-run single by Wensley.
- After Notre Dame plated a run in the bottom of the inning, NU responded in a big way in the second with five runs of their own. Karli Godlewski got things going by scoring on a throwing error, which was followed by a Danielle Bartodziej sac fly to make the score 4-1. Sydni Pauley then had an RBI double before Wontorcik hit a two-run homer to put Northwood on top 7-1.
- Northwood then rounded out the scoring for the game in the next inning with two more runs. D'Avilar plated Laura Walton with a double before Gietl had an RBI single to make the score 9-1.
- NU pitcher Makenzie Norton held the Panthers off the board over the final four innings of the game to give the Timberwolves the victory in five innings.
