Softball Wins Pair In Florida, Defeating Charleston and Nyack

SCORES: Northwood Timberwolves 10, Charleston Golden Eagles 1/Northwood 5, Nyack Warriors 1

RECAP: Softball wins pair on Florida trip Thursday (March 14), defeating Charleston 10-1 before downing Nyack 5-1.

CHARLESTON HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood opened the scoring in the second inning on a Torriya Gray-Baker solo home run.
  • Later in the second, Chase Schultz drove home a pair on a double to push the lead to 3-0.
  • After the Golden Eagles got one back on a solo homer in the bottom of the third, Northwood responded with four runs in the top of the fourth. Schultz added two more RBIs on a single to make it 5-1.
  • Julia Gross extended the advantage to 7-1 on a single that plated two.
  • NU then put the game away in the fifth with three more runs. Lauren Castellon had an RBI single, which was followed by another Gross two-run single.
  • The Timberwolves the recorded three outs in the bottom of the inning, ending the game after five innings.

NYACK HIGHLIGHTS

  • After two scoreless innings to start the game, Nyack got on the board in the top of the third to lead 1-0
  • Northwood came right back in the bottom of the inning, tying the game on a Grace Dutoi RBI double.
  • In the fifth, Dutoi made it 3-1 with on a two-run homer for their first lead of the day.
  • Later in the fifth, Abby Joseph and Tara Gross each had RBI singles to make the score 5-1.
  • Neither team would score the rest of the game.
  • Redshirt sophomore pitcher Taylor Wright, working her way back from injury, made her first appearance of the season a memorable one. She started the game and tossed two innings, striking out all six batters she faced.
