Softball Splits Pair In Florida

RECAP: Softball goes 1-1 in Florida Friday (March 15), defeating Caldwell 10-1 before falling to Kutztown 3-1.

CALDWELL GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• Northwood opened the scoring in the second inning thanks to a two-out error, which game the Timberwolves a 1-0 lead.
• Caldwell tied the game in the third on an RBI double.
• The fourth inning was the key part of the game, as the Timberwolves broke things open with nine runs. After NU scored on an error, Lauren Castellon made it 3-1 on an RBI single.
• Julia Gross doubled the lead on a two-run single, making the score 5-1.
• Grace Dutoi and Sydni Culps followed with big hits, each drilling two-run homers to give Northwood a 9-1 lead.
• The Timberwolves were not done in the inning, however, as Karli Godlewski double home Chase Schultz to finish off the frame.
• In all, Northwood scored nine runs on 10 hits in the inning to go up 10-1.
• NU held the Cougars off the board in the top of the fifth to end the game.

• The pitchers were the story early on, as the game remained scoreless into the fifth inning.
• Northwood got on the board first in the fifth on a Maddie Coulter sacrifice fly that plated Alexis Koehler.
• The Bears came thought in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs. The last two runs came with two outs to give Kutztown a 3-1 lead.
• The Timberwolves got two runners on in the top of the seventh but were unable to tie the game.
