Softball Places Five On All-GLIAC Team

SANDUSKY, OHIO – The Northwood University softball team placed a total of five student-athletes on the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams, the league announced Thursday evening (May 2).

Junior outfielder Maddie Coulter, sophomore second baseman Tara Gross and sophomore pitcher Taylor Wright all were named Second Team All-GLIAC. Sophomore outfielder Grace Dutoi and senior infielder/designated player Abby Joseph both earned Honorable Mention All-GLIAC.

Coulter earned Second Team All-GLIAC for the second straight year while playing center field for Northwood. She currently sports a .392 average and a .424 on-base percentage. Both of those marks are good for the team lead. Coulter also leads Northwood with 13 stolen bases while only getting caught stealing once.

Gross turned in another strong season as the starting second baseman for Northwood. She has appeared in 51 of 52 games this season and is batting .359. Gross stands with 14 doubles on the season, which is tied for fourth on the Northwood single-season list.

After battling injuries for two and a half seasons, Wright has turned into one of the top pitchers in the GLIAC in 2019. She is currently 6-3 this season with a 2.00 ERA. Wright is fourth in the GLIAC in ERA and second in strikeouts per seven innings.

Dutoi has had a breakout sophomore season for Northwood. She enters postseason play with a .357 average, five home runs and 41 RBIs. Dutoi currently has 17 doubles on the season, which is a new Northwood school record. Her 41 RBIs are the fifth most in school history.

Joseph earned Honorable Mention All-GLIAC for the second straight season. She enters the GLIAC tournament batting .285 with four home runs and 30 RBIs. Joseph is third on the team in home runs and second in RBIs. Her 13 doubles this season are the ninth-most in a season in school history.

Northwood finished the regular season 27-24-1 overall, 17-15 in the GLIAC. The Timberwolves are the fourth seed in the event and will take on fifth-seeded Saginaw Valley Friday morning (May 3). First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
