Softball Goes 1-1 On Opening Day Of Florida Trip

SCORES: Northwood Timberwolves 4, Fairmont State Knights 3/Minnesota State Mavericks 5, Northwood 4
RECORDS: Northwood 6-3/Fairmont State 0-7/Minnesota State 8-3

RECAP: Northwood softball opened their spring break trip to Florida by going 1-1, defeating Fairmont State 4-3 before falling to Minnesota State 5-4 Saturday (March 7).
FAIRMONT STATE HIGHLIGHTS
- Fairmont got on the board first with a run in the top of the third to go up 1-0.
- Northwood leveled the game in the fourth on an RBI single by Sydni Culps that scored Julia Gross.
- The Knights went back on top thanks to a two-run homer in the fifth to make the score 3-1.
- Northwood responded with a run on an error in the bottom of the fifth to cut the advantage to 4-3.
- Lauren Castellon came up with the key hit for Northwood to earn the comeback win. Her two-run single in the bottom of the sixth gave the Timberwolves the lead for good at 4-3.

- Northwood took the lead in the third inning on a Culps sacrifice fly that plated Maddie Coulter.
- The Mavericks put together a four-run third inning to take a 4-1 lead.
- Northwood bounced back immediately in the fourth, starting with a two-run single by Julia Gross to make the score 4-3.
- Grace Dutoi then finished inning with an RBI double to tie the score 4-4.
- The score remained tied until the bottom of the sixth when the Mavericks came through with the game-winning run.
